The fifth book from Andrew Lang's popular and richly illustrated Fairy Book series.Beautifully illustrated by Henry Justice Ford, a noted English illustrator praised for his beautiful illustrations for Lang's works.Illustrated with a frontispiece, a vignette title page, thirty-three full paged engravings, and numerous in-text engravings. Collated, complete. The pink volume contains stories from Sicilian, Scandinavian, and Japanese folklore. Including 'The Snow-Queen', 'The Cunning Shoemaker', 'The Merry Wives', 'The Sprig of Rosemary', 'The House in the Wood', 'The Goblin and the Grocer', and more. Written by Scottish poet, novelist and critic, Andrew Lang, who was an avid collector of folk and fairy tales. He is best known for this important and decorative series of Fairy Books. Bound in the publisher's original pink cloth. Externally, slightly worn, with bumping to the extremities, light marking to boards and a little discolouration to cloth. Front joint is torn all the way down, with a tear half way up the rear joint. Backstrip lifting. Rear hinge strained and front hinge tender, with cords visible. Lacking front free endpaper. Internally, binding tender in places, with p127-8 detached but present. Pages generally bright, with light scattered spotting. Good Only.
