Harper & Row. New York. 1969. 280 pages. First Edition stated, first printing. Book is fine. Tight, bright and clean; inside and out. Green cloth is bright with four sharp corners. Endpapers and pages are bright and clean. Pages lay flat and undisturbed in seemingly unread condition. Book is in exceptionally crisp condition. Original DJ with $7.95 price intact on flap, and 0969 code on base of flap. DJ not as nice as the pristine book, but still very attractive. DJ flaws limited to light rubbing along edges and folds, with minor soiling to rear. When this book was released in 1969, scientists called Delgado's work "invaluable" yet "ominous." Delgado describes his brain-stimulation research and discusses its implications by way of physical control of the mind, for the benefit of a more "psychocivilized society." Delgado's famous study of implanting chips into bull brains is illustrated as he stands in font of a charging pull feverishly pushing the button of his mind-control invention which successfully stopped the charging bull in its tracks just feet away from goring him. A book not for the squeamish as it is illustrated with photographs of monkeys, cats, and young women with "stimoceivers" affixed to their skulls; studies that have since been coined as "horrifying." This is the first edition, first printing of the controversial, and highly collectible landmark title. Fine/VG.…
