The Philosophical Corps (E.B. Cole, first edition) is a compact, idea-driven science-fiction adventure in which a small cadre of philosopher-diplomats is dispatched to troubled worlds to defuse crises through logic, ethics, and cultural insight rather than force. The narrative blends classic mid-century SF problem-solving with moral puzzles, alien sociologies, and the tension between idealism and realpolitik. Light on hardware, heavy on conceptual intrigue; representative of the period’s "thought experiment" tradition. THIS book is solid, but has several physical defects to the exterior, scraped top/bottom of the boards and damage to the top inside corner of the pages near the spine. Pages are clean, but have yellowing as shown in the photos throughout. Hard cover edition with dustjacket. 187 pages. Dimensions: 5.5" by 8.25". Published by The Gnome Press, Inc., Hicksville, NY. 1st printing, 1961. Light Blue binding. Cover defect(s): Moderate corner/edge damage. Page defect(s): Light foxing. Some page yellowing.
