From the Back Cover
As the presenter of Radio 4s 'Today' programme, Brian Redhead established himself as one of Britain's most distinguished and best loved broadcasters, his refreshing outspokenness and humour winning him legions of admirers.
'Personal Perspectives', is a lively and wonderfully varied collection of Brian Redhead's journalism – written over the last decade – in which he muses in his own inimitable way on subjects from train travel, Bank Holidays, the Welfare State, military bands, opinion polls, charities, Honours, pensions, urban development and great British obsessions, institutions and customs. And of course there are plenty of personal recollections and reflections: on the experience of wartime evacuation, trips abroad and grandparenthood.
Illustrated with sixteen pages of photographs, 'Personal Perspectives' shows Brian Redhead both as a public figure and a quiet family man. In the absence of an official biography – his family preferring to let his unique voice speak for itself – 'Personal Perspectives' will become required reading for all who delighted in the wit and wisdom of Brian Redhead.
‘Written always with wit, and often with kindness... quirky and generous to the end, his last book reflects a vibrant and loveable man.’
JOHN COLE, 'Daily Telegraph'
