Attractive modern brown pebble cloth binding with gilt decorations and lettering on spine. All edges gilt. Orange, blue, and white marbled endpapers. 5 1/2" x 9." 401 pages, complete. Thirteen black-and-white illustrations, one black-and-white folding map in front, and a beautiful hand-colored frontispiece, complete. Tipped-in Errata in front. Appendix in back. One additional page of advertisements for other books in back. Pages are very clean and intact but have a small bit of dampstaining in the front limited to the edges of the top margins. Covers are virtually pristine and intact. Binding is tight. A Near Fine copy. Thomas Postans (1808-1846) was a British military officer who worked for the East India Company. In this autobiographical account, Postans gives his personal observations about the Sindh (Sind) Province of British India and Pakistan. Sind was conquered by the British Empire during the early 1840s. Today, the Sindh Province is located in modern-day Pakistan.
