Like many of his contemporaries, Alfred Jules Ayer had a larger-than-life personality, and he maintained an active life and career until his death in 1989. His philosophical influences include Russell, Wittgenstein, Moore, Locke, among others. Ayer is best-remembered as one of the leaders of the logical positivist school, and he wrote and published prolifically. His autobiography tells not only his personal story, but the story of his philosophical development.
