First edition illustrated by Edward Francis Burney (1860-1848), this copy finely bound and with hand-coloured plates. These plates predate Burney's famous suite of illustrations for Paradise Lost (1799). ESTC T134226. Octavo (208 x 124 mm), pp. [4], 428. Hand-coloured frontispiece with tissue guard, 3 similar plates, all by James Fitter after Edward Francis Burney. Contemporary red straight-grain morocco, spine lettered in gilt, gilt rules framing bands and boards, gilt fillet to turn-ins, marbled endpapers, edges gilt, blue bookmarker. Mid-19th-century bookseller's ticket to front pastedown. Binding bright, extremities lightly rubbed, sporadic foxing. A very good copy.
