New and sealed in publisher's shrink wrap as received directly from the Folio Society. First published in 2014, impression unknown but assumed first. Illustrated by James Albon. Introduced by Philip Hensher. The two matching volumes are quarter-bound in cloth with paper sides printed with illustrations by the artist. They are housed in a blocked slipcase. Each volume measures 9�" x 6�" and is set in Photina. 1,128 pages in total. Frontispiece and 10 colour illustrations in each volume. 8vo - over 7� - 9�" tall. A modernist masterpiece, Ford Madox Ford?s Great War tetralogy - originally published between 1924 and 1928 - is vividly evoked in this striking two-volume edition. Chronicling the wartime experiences of Christopher Tietjens, a brilliant government statistician and wealthy landowner, 'Parade?s End' is a portrait of British society during the First World War. Described by Ford as the 'last English Tory', Tietjens is torn between his scheming and promiscuous socialite wife, Sylvia, and the progressive Valentine Wannop, a pacifist and suffragette - relationships framed by his reliance on a crumbling moral code. Ford presents a gritty and uncompromising portrait of Tietjens's life in the trenches of Belgium and France, and his subsequent return home, suffering from crippling shell shock. Through a narrative brimming with modernist experimentation, we follow his struggle to reconcile his relationships while navigating the shifting sands of an evolving social order. Orders are sent out within 2 business days and are always securely and professionally packaged and fully insured. Default postage costs are based on orders weighing up to 2.2 lbs, or 1 kg (book + packaging materials). If your book order is heavy and/or oversized, we may contact you to let you know an additional postage charge is necessary. We will never take payment until extra costs have been agreed by you.

The cost of shipping to Europe by Surface Mail (i.e. Standard Shipping option) is often as much as by Airmail and it is actually higher than Airmail for any package weighing 800 gms or more. As a result, we always ship to Europe by Airmail. Surface Mail can be significantly cheaper when shipping to the Rest of the World so both options are quoted but delivery times can be very lengthy so we do not recommend this service.
