4 volumes in 6 plus Index volume. Small quarto. Publisher's gilt-decorated blue cloth. Illustrated with a profusion of color plates, maps, and folding plans. A complete set of this comprehensive work on the excavation and restoration of the ruins at Knossos on the island of Crete. Dating from the Bronze Age it is often called the oldest European city. The Index volume in this set is a 1964 reprint published by Biblo and Tannen. This set has been collated and is complete. The set is in good condition with some light scuffing to the cloth and some wear to the spine tips. The upper spine of Vol. IV- Part II has been repaired with modern cloth and new gilt lettering. Here are some internal condition notes for each volume in the set: Vol. 1: There is a 5-line ink inscription from H.K. Corning to George C. Fraser on the flyleaf. There is some foxing to two of the color plates and to the folding map of Crete. There is some scattered foxing to the text which is lightly curled at the bottom. The endsheets are lightly browned. Vol. 2 Part I: There is some browning to the endsheets. One color plate has some foxing. Vol. 2 Part II: Contents have some foxing including folding plans and color plates. The text is slightly curled at the bottom. The 'Cup Bearer' fresco folding color plate has a short tear at the right edge and a small tape repair on the other side. The 3 folding plans in the rear pocket are in very good, clean condition. Vol. 3: Contents have some foxing including plans and color plates. The text is slightly curled at the bottom. Th folding plans in rear pocket are very good and clean. Vol. 4 Part 1: Color frontis is foxed and endsheets have some browning. Text is otherwise very good and clean as is the folding plan in rear pocket. Vol. 4 Part II: Cloth repair to top of spine (as mentioned). Contents very good and clean including folding plans in rear pocket. Index to the Palace of Minos. 1964 reprint volume. Very good and bright. Contents very good and clean.
