Item description from seller

12mo; 172, (4) pages; Contemporary binding of quarter calf over marbled boards; chipped at head of spine; corners rounded and rubbed through leather; general rubbing; contents unmarked and secure; faint damp stain at lower outer corner of first 10 leaves; Contents include: the Psalms, Proverbs, the Sermon on the Mount, the Ten Commandements, and the Nicene Creed. Shoemaker 15391 [American Imprints 1820-1829] . A nice example of an early Georgetown imprint in a contemporary binding (probably bound at Milligan's as well). Joseph Milligan was Thomas Jefferson's longtime Georgetown bookseller. When Congress agreed to purchase Jefferson’s library, Milligan went to Jefferson’s Monticello home to inventory and appraise the collection. He also supervised its packing and transportation to Washington. When the transfer of Jefferson's book collection to Washington D.C. was completed in July 1815, Jefferson was already working with Milligan to rebuild a new library, his ‘retirement library.'.
