Item description from seller

Navy blue cloth, hardback book, with faded gilt title impressions on front board. The book is in reasonably good condition, unfortunately the back board has been damaged at the base, please see photo. (a small cut out area at the base of the board, which I'm sure could be repaired.) However the rest of the book is actually in really good shape. Normal wear and marks apply consistent with use and age. Slight shelf-life wear, tiny speckles of foxing to edge of papers. 158 pages, plus solutions page, index and publisher's advertisement pages, all pages intact, good tight binding, all pages, text and illustrations are in good, clean, readable order. First published in 1899, First Edition. Preface by the editor and publisher, Frideswide F. Rowland, Kingstown, Dublin, November 1899. Printed by W. Morgan, Chess Player's Chronicle Office, London. A fascinating insight into a top international chess player of his time.
