Two short closed tears to top of spine; nick near base of spine. Black endpapers. Binder's sticker (from Dublin) to bottom of front pastedown. Previous owner's name stamped to title page. An 18th-century travelogue originally written by the English clergyman and explorer Richard Pococke (1704-1765); this is its first publication. The book is a primary historical account of Georgian-era Ireland. It contains observations of the landscape, local industries, and the day-to-day life of the people whom Pococke encountered across more than half of Ireland's counties. George T. Stokes (1843-1898), an ecclesiastical history professor at Trinity College in Dublin, transcribed and edited Pococke's original Trinity College manuscripts.
