Item description from seller

First impression of the true first edition, published in Oxford in 2014. Illustrated with occasional black & white photographs within the text. ***Near fine in black cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. Head and tail of spine slightly creased, with a small split to the cloth at the tail, and a small crease to the top edge of the front board - otherwise no bumps or creases. Corners sharp. Boards beautifully clean. Page block edges clean, with just a small light stain on the fore-edge. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions or annotations. No foxing. Paper crisp and bright. Printed on heavy high quality paper in a firm sewn binding. ***In a near fine illustrated dustwrapper which is unpriced by the publisher, as many academic books seem to be. Head and tail of spine of dustwrapper just slightly creased. No chips or tears. No fading. Dustwrapper clean and bright. ***225mm x 150mm. 452 pages including a Bibliography of Peter Levi's major works, a detailed section of Endnotes, and a very detailed Index at the back of the book. ***'Peter Chad Tigar Levi FSA FRSL (16 May 1931, in Ruislip - 1 February 2000, in Frampton-on-Severn) was an English poet, archaeologist, Jesuit priest, travel writer, biographer, academic and prolific reviewer and critic. He was Professor of Poetry at the University of Oxford (1984-1989).' (Wiki) ***'In my opinion Peter Levi represents one of the most significant reactions to the often commonsensical or socially orientated poetry of the 1950s --- In this respect his largely visionary work can now be associated with that of contemporaries like Peter Redgrove or Ted Hughes. This is, I think, how history will see him, and Brigid Allen's biography will put him more firmly on the map.' (Quote taken from John Fuller's notes on the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***A near fine copy of the true first edition, complete in its original dustwrapper. Printed on quality acid-free paper. A very detailed study of the life and work of Peter Levi in very nice bright condition. Uncommon in hardcover first edition. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
