A pre-Second World War copy of Richmal Crompton's "More William" - 26th impression of the true first edition - particularly elusive to find in its original fragile dustwrapper in nice collectable condition + a Children's Book Club edition of "William and the Moon Rocket". Both books illustrated with black and white line drawings by Thomas Henry. ***"MORE WILLIAM" - Very good in red boards with black titles to the spine. Edges of boards slightly rubbed and faded. Boards lightly speckled and very slightly faded. Spine slightly faded. Top edge of page block discoloured. Fore-edge of text-block has a couple of fox marks, very slightly bleeding into the page margins. Internally also very good, with a contemporaneous child's gift inscription in black ink on front free endpaper: "To Mary, from George, Wishing you a Merry Xmas." Light off-setting to front and rear free endpapers and pastedowns. Interior pages clean. Slight spine lean. Spine tight. ***In a very good original colour illustrated dustwrapper, which is rubbed, darkened and creased at the edges with tiny closed tears at the extremities. Head and tail of spine creased and rubbed with tiny chips and closed tears. Tail of spine creased, rubbed and nicked with tiny chips and tears. Tiny chips and rubbing to corners of dustwrapper. Back panel of dustwrapper rubbed, slightly marked and discoloured (being a white matt background). Front panel of dustwrapper bright. Spine of dustwrapper slightly browned, but illustration and titles bright. Red colour to front cover bright and unfaded. ***192mm x 130mm. 254 pages. ***Very good in dark red boards with black titles to the spine. Head and tail of spine slightly creased and faded at the top edge. Lower corners of boards slightly creased. Internally also very good, with a neat contemporaneous owner's name and date in blue biro: 'C. G. S. Maston, Dec. 1955' to the top of the front free endpaper. Pages clean and uncreased. No tears. Paper stock tanned (cheap paper stock used). No reading lean. Spine tight. ***In a fair colour illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, with 'Published by Newnes at 8s 6d - Children's Book Club Edition' on the front flap. There is a large chip and associated crease to the top edge of the front panel. Head and tail of spine slightly creased with small areas of surface loss. Closed tears and creases also to the bottom corner of the front panel. Edges are creased and rubbed with small closed tears. Edges of inside of dustwrapper have been reinforced with paper. Back panel of dustwrapper slightly discoloured and rubbed (being a white background) with some tape offsetting at the top edge of the back panel near to the spine. Red colour to the spine of the dustwrapper slightly faded. Front panel of dustwrapper bright. ***248 pages. 190mm x 130mm. ***A pre-Second World War copy of Richmal Crompton's "More William" - 26th impression of the true first edition - particularly elusive to find in its original fragile dustwrapper in nice collectable condition + a Children's Book Club edition of "William and the Moon Rocket" - a less common title in the series. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # M022
