A very scarce first edition. The work of H. Cholmondeley-Pennell, a British naturalist and fisheries inspector.Pennell analyses the findings of the Sea Fisheries Commission, and discusses the historical development of oyster laws. He evaluates the effectiveness of laws, and offers recommendations for reform to ensure the sustainability of oyster stocks and the livelihoods of those dependent on the industry. The work reflects the nineteenth century concerns over declining oyster populations and the need for legislative action to address overfishing and habitat degradation.
