First collected edition (see below). Octavo. viii, 175 (psychology), 80 (pedagogy) pp. Issued in wrappers, this copy bound (with front cover) into navy blue leather with spine gilt. Owner name and stamp of a noted American psychologist on the front fly, and his name again on a front blank; Wien bookseller ticket on the title page. A bit of tanning on the endleaves from the jacket, front cover and title page with tape shadows, frontispiece and tissue guard with tape remnants, frontispiece (a group portrait) with each person numbered in ink (to match the printed, numbered tissue guard which has wear, possible repair, and a small hole), very good. An otherwise bright copy in a fine unprinted dust jacket with a tiny bit of edgewear (jacket not shown in the photograph). One of a series of lectures on various topics given at Clark for their 20th anniversary; the areas of psychology and pedagogy brought together several major names in the fields. The most notable attendees were Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, both of whom made their only trip to the U.S. to attend. Freud's five lectures collected here as "The Origin and Development of Psychoanalysis." To quote the Clark University website, this series "mark the formal introduction of his theories to the United States." (N.B. All of the lectures published here first appeared first in one of two journals; more on that below.) Additional contributors are Carl Jung ("The Association Method"), William Stern (inventor of the IQ formula: "The Psychology of Testimony, and the Study of Individuality, abstracts of four lectures"); and Franz Boas ("Psychological Problems in Anthropology"); as well as lectures by H. S. Jennings, Adolf Meyer, and E. B. Titchener. Essays on pedagogy by Leo Burgerstein, Thomas A. Storey, Guy M. Whipple, Henry H. Goddard, Paul Monroe, Thomas M. Balliet, Anna J. McKeag, Edward F. Buchner, and W. S. Small. The lectures on psychology were reprinted from *The American Journal of Psychology*, Vol. XXI, Nos. 2 and 3, and the lectures on pedagogy were reprinted from *The Pedagogical Seminary*, Vol. XVII, No. 1.…
