[4], 148 pages. Footnotes. Maps. Illustrations. Tables. Ink marks noted. The Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI) is an American think tank based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that conducts research on geopolitics, international relations, and international security in the various regions of the world as well as on ethnic conflict, U.S. national security, terrorism, and on think tanks themselves. It publishes a quarterly journal, Orbis, as well as a series of monographs, books, and electronic newsletters. FPRI was founded by Ambassador Robert Strausz-Hupé, a Vienna native who immigrated to the United States in 1923. Dissatisfied with the containment strategy of John Foster Dulles and the Eisenhower administration's foreign policy in general, Strausz-Hupé founded FPRI in 1955 with support from the University of Pennsylvania and the Smith Richardson Foundation.[citation needed] In 1957 publication commenced of the institute's quarterly, Orbis. Since the end of the Cold War the institute has focused on education in international affairs, sponsoring various programs in Philadelphia area schools as well as conferences and seminars for high school and junior college teachers and lectures for the general public. The U.S.-led War on Terrorism is also a central topic of FPRI research. Foreign Policy Research Institute's quarterly journal of world affairs, was founded in 1957 as a forum for policymakers, scholars, and the informed public who sought an engaging, thought-provoking debate beyond the predictable, conventional journals of that time. Nearly half a century later, Orbis continues to offer informative, insightful, and lively discourse on the full range of topics relating to American foreign policy and national security, as well as in-depth analysis on important international developments. Orbis readers always know the stories behind the headlines. In this issue there is a focus on Advice to the New President, with articles on National Security Challenges by Kori Schake; Making U.S. National Security Decisions by Nikolas K. Gvosdev; Rethinking Geopolitics; Rebuilding Alliances by Ronald J. Granieri; Shaping the 21st Century Military by F. G. Hoffman; Navigating Putin's Russia by John R. Haines, Managing Sino-American Relations by June Teufel Dreyer; and Engaging India and South Asia by Sumit Ganguly. In addition there is an insightful article by Yoshihara and Holmes on Responding to China's Rising Sea Power.; an article on Revisiting the Iran Nuclear Deal by Jerome H. Kahan, and Defining a "Trump Doctrine" by John R. Haines. Presumed First Edition, First printing this issue.…
