From the Author
Hours of fun for opera-lovers of every tier!
A reflection of both musical history and what has been happening on the current operatic scene right up to productions having their premiere within weeks of my manuscript's completion, this revised edition to my 1991 quiz book expands the original book's 100 quizzes by over 450 new questions, enlarging its coverage of operas, operettas, and opera-related plays and films to over 700 works!
Written to provide readers of all levels of listening experience with valuable insights and information (as well as some irreverent but affectionate laughs), What's Your Opera I.Q.? stands proudly beside serious music reference books as one of the most complete guides to modern performance and opera history.
Some sample questions:
Who composed Nixon in China?
Who composed A Night at the Chinese Opera?
What opera house was destroyed by fire on 1/31/94?
What opera house was destroyed by fire on 1/29/96?
The Salome in what Massenet work keeps her clothes on?
What opera had its U.S. staged premiere as late as 1995, in Arlington, Virginia -- an event attended by the composer's own granddaughter, Simonetta Puccini?
The answers to these and many, many other questions can be found in the new What's Your Opera I.Q.?
