John Steinbeck re-introduces a series of memorable dispatches, filed in 1943 from England, Africa, and Italy, which brought such as vivid personal picture of the World War II to readers of the New York Herald Tribune and other newspapers around the country. They have rested in the archives, never appearing in book form. In this book, those dispatches prove to be not only top-notch journalism, but examples of Steinbeck's clear and easy prose at its descriptive best. Here are intimate stories of Americans caught up in the war. A wonderful, historical work - very collectible.
