Once Upon a Time: The Fairy Tale World of Arthur Rackham is a richly illustrated celebration of the art of Arthur Rackham (1867-1939), one of the greatest and most influential Golden Age illustrators of fairy tales and fantasy literature. The volume was produced at a time when interest in Rackham's work was undergoing a major revival among collectors and art historians. Rather than being a conventional biography, the book serves as an exploration of Rackham's enchanted artistic universe, drawing together examples from his finest illustrated books and examining the imaginative world he created. The book surveys Rackham's interpretations of classic fairy tales, folklore, legends and fantasy stories. The book demonstrates how Rackham blended fantasy with an almost botanical precision derived from close observation of nature. Ref A7 4.…
