This book analyzes ideas central to disputes between reformers and traditionalists, and the preoccupation with the question: "What is knowledge?". The author focuses on the distinction between sensory and intellectual cognition and on the concept of "notion" central to epistemological debates of the period. He pays special attention to the doctrines of John Mair, David Cranston, Gilbert Crab, George Lokert and Gervaise Waim, who were all philosophers at the University of Paris between 1500 and 1530.
