One of the most important nineteenth-century comparative studies of classical architecture, Charles Normand's A New Parallel of the Orders of Architecture presents a detailed examination of the architectural orders of Ancient Greece and Rome alongside their interpretation by leading Renaissance and modern European architects. Published in 1829 and featuring the contribution of the celebrated architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin, the work became an essential reference for architects, designers and students during the nineteenth century. The magnificent engraved plates illustrate the proportions, capitals, entablatures and decorative details of the classical orders with remarkable precision, reflecting the growing scholarly interest in archaeology and architectural history. Combining technical accuracy with exceptional visual appeal, this substantial folio remains one of the finest comparative architectural studies of its period and is highly sought after by collectors of architecture, design and the decorative arts. Why Buy This Book; First edition published in 1829. Important architectural reference work. Augustus Pugin contribution. Complete with 66 engraved plates. Large folio format. Superb engraved architectural illustrations. Classical Greek and Roman architecture. Essential nineteenth-century architectural study. Increasingly difficult to obtain complete. Ideal for collectors, architects and design libraries. Excellent display and reference volume. First edition. Folio. Half-title, engraved frontispiece and 66 engraved plates. A few leaves professionally reinforced at the gutter, light foxing and browning with occasional small stains, later half buckram binding. A complete and well-preserved example of this important nineteenth-century architectural work.
