First nonfiction work by this award-winning writer in which she "explores sex and gender through portraits of people who are widely considered not normal." Part of a collection of social science books--the majority packed away since Brand New--just removed from storage where they have been since the 1990s following review for an academic publication. To get them listed expeditiously, we are foregoing our usual detailed descriptions. A chance to build your library with essentially new books that have been long out of print or not seen the light of day in decades! A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 2002, this hardcover book & accompanying DJ are in Fine condition: looks & feels nearly Brand New! Completely clean & unmarked, virtually flawless. Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, Weekends, & holidays ship very next business day.

Bloom shows the essential humanity in this infinite variety, allowing us to appreciate these people as they really are - both like and unlike everyone else - and inviting us "to see into these particular worlds and back out to the larger one we all share." Casting light into the dusty corners of our assumptions about sex, gender, and identity, about what it means to be male or female. Bloom reveals new facets to ideas about happiness, personality, and character, even as she brilliantly illumines the very concept of "normal."
