Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated by a frontispiece and a few additional plates. Plates are drawings depicting the historical and cultural scenes Timbs describes. Historical moments from the English Civil War, the Roman occuaption of England, medieval England, and England in the ninteenth century are described. The manners and customs of the English people are also detailed in this volume, with a discussion on the lives of English peasants.
