This is a biography of Nicholas Breakspear, who was the only Englishman to have been the Pope and occupied that position from 1154 to 1159. 1/2 red leather binding with marbled boards. 5 raised bands on spine and gilt lettering. Front cover detached. Head and tail of spine somewhat chipped, as well as tearing at back outer joint. Binding is solid. Illustrated frontispiece. Mild foxing to front and back free endpapers, main text body is virtually free from foxing or stains of any kind. Some illustrations, maps, and black and white photos throughout. xvii. 292 pp. Indexed. This book is free from writing or marginalia/underlining within. More pictures available upon request.
