About this Item
1967. First edition. 95pp. Andrew John Young (1885-1971) was a Scottish writer, poet and clergyman although recognition of his poetry was slow to develop. The Royal Society of Literature awarded him the Benson Medal in 1939 and gave him an honorary fellowship in 1951. In that year too he received an honorary degree from the University of Edinburgh and, in the following year, was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry. He was a writer with a grerat love for the British countryside, and in this book he takes us on a leisurely, affectionate journey through an England that is rapidly disappearing. He writes of the smell of summer pastures, of twisting lanes ands bare uplands. There is also a nostalgic 'Recollection' of the Edinburgh of his childhood. The book is bound in the original brown paper covered boards with gold titling on the spine. It is in very good condition with light bumping to the bottom of the spine and top corners. The spine is very slightly cocked. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. A review of the book from the 'Daily Telegraph' has been tipped in on the front fixed endpaper. The clipped dustwrapper is also very good with light shelf wear and rubbing along the top edge. The top of the spine is bumped and nicked and the spine is faded. The dustwrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover. Seller Inventory # PoetYoung05
