About this Item
8vo 8" - 9" tall; 296 pages; 1892 Pilger Buchhandlung, Reading PA. HC 1st edition. Bound in original green cloth with pictorial design to cover in black showing a Masonic meeting along with several Masonic symbols and devices, lettered in black on gilt to cover. Spine unlettered as issued. Berner was pastor at the Frieden Gemeinden Reformed Church in Buffalo at the time he wrote this Masonic related novel. Buffalo was home to a number of Free-Mason, German language dominant lodges when he wrote this. At first glance I took this to be an anti-masonic work, but given the circumstances it appears to be more of a sympathetic fictional work related to the German Free Mason lodges in Buffalo. Binding is shaken but generally sound. Floral endpages split in the hinge gutters have been archivally reinforced by us with japanese paper. A few scattered pages with a marginal ink mark of emphasis. OCLC Worldcat locates 8 copies held by institutions and libraries. G+. Seller Inventory # 51248
