Cowley 1684; Drake portrait; Dampier's natural history plate; Dampier's map of New Guinea; Shelvocke; California natives; Capt. Betagh; plan of Lima; Commodore Roggewein; Batavia; George Anson; natural history plate; Macao; Canton; N map of NE India; Alexandria; lighthouse (page opposite torn with slight loss) Rhinoceros and elephant in India; Lions & tigers in East Indies; Camel; ass; zebra; etc. East Indies Eagle; ostrich; Chinese prostitute and street scene; Tartar camp in motion; chinese pagan temple; Bowen Map of the East Indies; Dutch torture of English in East Indies. Volume 2 contains 4 portraits, Raleigh, Hawkins, etc. folding map Atlantic Ocean; Cortez & Montezuma in Mexico City; Antient Mexico view; City of St. Salvadore; Bowen map of North Pole; Whale fishery; killing bears; Arctic natives. Tall folio, 2 volumes. [Vol 1] royal decree, title & 4 pp dedication, 4 pp preface, xvi introduction, 4 pp contents, 984 pp [&] [Vol 2] frontis, title [1] verso blank, preface [2], contents [6], 1056 pp text, index [21], a list of charts, etc.[1]. Bound in dark brown period full calf, hinges cracked, boards rubbed, but holding together well, title & volume number on spine. A couple pages of text have some tears, but only on one page does it affect the text. Otherwise the text is very clean, a very good reading copy.
