Great guide to the flora and fauna of Eastern California including numerous black and white illustrations, a large section of color photographs and a map in a map pocket on the rear pastedown. The book has sound hinges and does not lean. "From the library of John W. Martin" stamped on the bottom of the title page with the image of an owl. Pages are clean without toning, foxing, marks, creases, stains, wrinkles or tears. The book's outer covers and spine are also spotless. Two cover corners are each just very slightly blunted. The map in the back of the book is just-like-new. The book's original dust jacket is not price-clipped and is in near-fine condition with very slight wear to edges. It has been put in a clear archival sleeve to keep it looking great. (Note: Photos may show a flash reflection.) PayPal always welcome. We pack all our books with care and ship in cardboard boxes. Shipment outside of the United States may require extra funds. Additional photos emailed upon request. G4.

- BOTANY, CALIFORNIA, NATURAL HISTORY
The nearly two dozen contributors to the volume are leading experts on the flora and fauna, the geology, geomorphology, meteorology, anthropology, and archaeology of the area. The book offers descriptions of more than 650 kinds of living organisms, from the handful of fish to the abundance of reptile, amphibian, bird and plant species. (It provides descriptions of hundreds of flowering plants.) It contains an 8-color geologic map and a roadside guide that enables the visitor to make sense of the area's complex geological history. Readers will also learn about air currents that make the range a delight for sailplane pilots and create strange cloud formations. And a special chapter tells what is known of the Native Americans who moved up and down the mountain slopes in response to seasonal changes.
For anyone who wishes to visit this astonishing area or to do research there, this volume will be a unique, comprehensive resource.
