Carey was Second in Charge in the Taranaki Campaigns,he fought at Gate Pa, and numerous other battles, he later was promoted to Brigadier General. Carey a very honest man was highly critical of the British settlers and their greed for land owned by maori. If you do have any doubts as to a lot of causes of the land wars go no further than Carey.
