8vo. 418pp. Stated first printing. Bound in sturdy grey cloth boards, with grey topstain and pictorial map endpapers. VG/VG-. Topstain shows light fading, with a couple of faint moisture spots. Edges of textblock lightly tanned. Unclipped "$3.00" jacket shows uniform browning, with light general edgewear, several short closed teras, a 1" closed tear at top of front flap hinge, and rubbing with some surface loss to the front and spine panels. Presents quite nicely indeed. An engaging yet authoritative study of the diverse origins of American place names, by the author of the science fiction classic "Earth Abides."
