After all, the first 100 pages deal with things you should know, do and think about before implementing an NT 4 Server based network. Well, you can do it next time.

You'll do a lot of things differently next time. Strebe's advice is born of real-world problem solving. It's so sensible and informed you can skip most of the mistakes you'd normally expect to make regarding hardware, security, scalability, user management, training and support. Strebe makes it easy by interspersing general advice with solutions to specific problems he's come across. If anything, the problem-solving methodology you'll gain from these examples is the most valuable feature of his book. One of the truly welcome sections is the 80-page appendix on Registry keys, what they do and the values they can take. The Registry is under-documented and the cause of much frustration so this is excellent material.

A great feature of Strebe's book is the information it gives on overcoming the limits of NT 4 Server--which is the kind of thing Microsoft never tells you. As you read through you'll find yourself muttering, "Of course" and "Why didn't I think of that?". --Steve Patient
