First impression of the first UK edition. The book was originally published in the US by Grove Press in 1964. The final volume of the Nova Trilogy. This copy is in exceptional condition. ***Near fine in black cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The gilt is still beautifully bright, having been protected by the dustwrapper. The boards are clean and virtually unmarked - just a small mark on the front board. The head and tail of the spine remain uncreased. Corner tips sharp. Top edge of page block stained red by the publisher, still nice and clean - only slightly marked - and unfaded. Fore-edge and bottom edge of page block white and clean with no foxing. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally also near fine with no previous ownership inscriptions. Endpapers white and clean with no offsetting. Interior pages also white and clean. No foxing. No creases or tears. ***In a near fine colour illustrated dustwrapper, which is complete, and retains the original publisher's printed price of 25s. net on the front flap. The dustwrapper has no discernible faults, which is very unusual for this title. No rubbing, creases or tears. No loss. No fading. Dustwrapper bright, with absolutely no fading to the light-sensitive red colour even on the spine. ***204mm x 135mm. 217 pages. ***'"Nova Express" is a 1964 novel by American author William S. Burroughs. It was written using the 'fold-in' method, a version of the cut-up method, developed by Burroughs with Brion Gysin, of enfolding snippets of different texts into the novel. It is part of The Nova Trilogy, or "Cut-Up Trilogy', together with "The Soft Machine" and "The Ticket That Exploded". Burroughs considered the trilogy a "sequel" or "mathematical" continuation of "The Naked Lunch". "Nova Express" was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1965. It is listed in David Pringle's 1985 book Science Fiction: The 100 Best Novels.' (Wiki) ***'"The Naked Lunch", hailed as a masterpiece by some, discarded as esoteric sensationalism by others, is one of the most discussed novels of the twentieth century. Burroughs is considered either a charlatan or a writer whose importance is to be measured with that of Kafka and Joyce. Norman Mailer calls him "the only American novelist living today who may conceivably be possessed by genius". "Nova Express" is the second of his novels to be published in this country. It concerns the war against Hell - an hallucinatory interplanetary cops-and-robbers game with the Nova Police on one side and the Nova Mob on the other. ---As in "The Naked Lunch", the seriousness is partially cloaked and partially illuminated by the riotous Burroughs humour.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***First impression of the first UK edition, complete in its original 1966 dustwrapper in astoundingly good condition - a real collector's copy, and a key text of the Beat generation. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.…
