Orange boardswith only light shelf wear, the front occasionally soiled, the rear with a thin faint white line 10 cm in length. The spine, with orange lettering on a black background with hands constructing a jig-saw, is browned and faded. Internally the front free endpaper bears a name and address in pencil and is heavily foxed; this foxing rapidly diminishes and is largely absent after page 40. Page 236 has a 6mm vertical tear near the hinge. Tipped in before the next page is a pink tissue which suggests doing the puzzle before breaking the seal.
