Item description from seller

A smart first edition of this charming tale from Whitfield, with wood-engravings throughout. First edition. In the scarce original price-clipped dust wrapper. Illustrated with frontispiece and four full-page wood-engravings. Collated complete. A charming and passionate story following a young Mr. Chambers and his relationship with the mysterious and beautiful Persephone. Written by Christopher Whitfield, a British author. Illustrated by Dorothea Braby, a British artist known for her book illustrations. In the original yellow cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. Original price-clipped dust wrapper is also smart with light shelf wear and sunning to the spine and board edges. The odd small closed tear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light scattered spotting to the first and last few pages. Very Good.
