Uncommon in this condition, with dustjacket. A Cistercian (Trappist) monk, Pennington explores the physical and spiritual landscape of monastic life. He frames the monastic experience through the lens of the Western tradition, primarily following the Rule of St. Benedict and its Cistercian refinement. The book is further enriched by Nicholas Sapieha?s photographs, which provide a visual bridge between these ancient spiritual principles and the modern reality of cloistered life. M. Basil Pennington, O.C.S.O.(1931?2005) was an American Trappist priest and leading spiritual writer, speaker, teacher, and director. He became known internationally as one of the major proponents of the centering prayer movement begun at St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, during the 1970s. Nicolas Sapieha (1937?1995), also known by his Polish name Miko?aj Fryderyk Sapieha, was a prominent Polish-American photographer and a prince of the noble Sapieha family.
