The first English-language edition (first printing), issued three years after the original German edition. 8vo. 235pp. Purple boards lettered in gold at the spine. Photographic portrait frontispiece. A small indeterminate blemish to one leaf margin, and just a trace of very light spotting to half a dozen preliminary leaves. A very good copy in good non-price-clipped dust wrapper, slightly dust soiled, with the publisher's laminate lifting a fraction in one area, and with two quite small areas of loss from the head of the rear panel. An unaccredited English translation of this biography of Milena Jesenská, a Czech journalist and writer, the sometime lover of Franz Kafka and the first to translate any of his work into Czech.
