Soft cover. Condition: As New. 1st Thus Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 533 pages. Published in 2000. The author's massive breakthrough novel. One of the greatest books of the 20th century. The 2000 First Penguin "Great Books of The 20th Century" Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent printings. Published in a relatively small and limited first print run as a softcover original only that sold out upon publication. The First Edition Thus is now rare. Re-presents, in a brilliant, turn-of-the-21st century edition and collectible format, Salman Rushdie's "Midnight's Children". His enduring masterpiece. It seems superfluous, by now, to shower it with praise, even as the work itself remains inexhaustible. "To understand one life, you have to swallow the world" (Salman Rushdie). An absolute "must-have" title for Salman Rushdie collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by Salman Rushdie. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. Laid-in is a pristine copy of the Bookstore's Souvenir Bookmark, where the signing was held. This title is a great book. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the First Edition Thus/First Printing (Penguin "Great Books") available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. It is, as far as we can tell, the only copy of the First Printing of this handsome edition available online. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws or are in innumerable subsequent printings. Copies of the true first command thousands of dollars, rightly so. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. Winner of the Booker Prize in 1981 for "Midnight's Children", which was also selected as "The Booker of Bookers" in 1993, the best of all previous winners. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER SALMAN RUSHDIE TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0140283390. Signed by Author. Seller Inventory # 23515
