Hardcover in original pictorial dust jacket. Large square-format children's picture book with full-color illustrations throughout by Maurice Sendak and hand lettering by Jeanyee Wong.
A bright, unusually well-preserved first edition collaboration between playwright/screenwriter Arthur Yorinks and Caldecott Medal-winning illustrator Maurice Sendak. The Miami Giant follows the eccentric Giuseppe and his encounter with a towering giant, rendered in Sendak's theatrical, densely detailed watercolor-and-ink illustrations. The book reflects the pair's longstanding creative partnership and carries the whimsical, operatic visual energy associated with Sendak's later-career work. Particularly appealing are the vivid yellow endpapers, cinematic title spread, and humorous multilingual dialogue balloons woven throughout the narrative. First editions of Sendak collaborations remain collectible, especially in superior condition with clean jackets and strong color.
Book condition: Near Fine. Clean, sharp boards with bright yellow cloth and crisp corners. Binding tight and square. Pictorial boards mimic the dust jacket imagery. Interior clean and fresh with no writing apart from a neat prior-owner name ('Duling') on the front flyleaf, written in a classroom-copy style; no other markings noted. Dust jacket condition: Near Fine. Unclipped jacket with original price intact; bright and attractive with minimal shelf wear and only light rubbing at extremities. No tears or major creasing observed. Stated 'First Edition, 1995' on copyright page with no later printings indicated.
