First Edition, Third Printing, November 1956, clearly stated on copyright page. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania: Eagle Books / The Telegraph Press, 1956. Hardcover in original pictorial dust jacket with the publisher's $4.95 price intact on the front flap. Brigadier General Edward J. Stackpole's classic military history of the Gettysburg Campaign and the three-day battle that became a decisive turning point of the American Civil War. The work follows the Confederate invasion of Pennsylvania, the movements and decisions of Generals Robert E. Lee and George G. Meade, and the major engagements culminating in Pickett's Charge. Illustrated and accompanied by maps, including map endpapers. 342 pages plus introductory matter. A handsome, well-preserved copy. Book appears clean and firmly bound with light age-related wear. Original dust jacket remains unusually attractive for a 1956 copy, retaining strong color and the original $4.95 price, with light edge and shelf wear consistent with age. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. I would definitely make “FIRST EDITION, THIRD PRINTING 1956” prominent in the listing rather than just calling it a third printing—it distinguishes it from the much later Bonanza and Stackpole reissues.…
