A handbill distributed by Leese s Angles News Service alerting small business owners of the threat of Jewish mercantile practices on their businesses. As Leese explains, "Backed by the great semi-secret Jewish Money power, the Jew means to try and rule the world, and has already such commercial and political influence that Britain and her politics find themselves in a JEWISH STRANGLEHOLD." The Angles News Service was part of the 'Angles Circle', the moniker adopted by Arnold Leese and his Imperial Fascist League after Sept. 1939 when the British government proscribed fascist organizations. This handbill must have been circulated right around that time as the verso encourages the reader to "Join At Once the Imperial Fascist League." Other members of the Circle included members of Archibald Maule Ramsay's Nordic League, which was also forced to disband at the outset of the war. The group issued a paper, the "Angles Weekly," published by Angles News Service. We find no evidence that it survived the enforcement of Defense Regulation 18B in May 1940, which forced Leese to remain on the run until he was captured in Nov. Printed in black on both sides of an 8 ¼" x 5" sheet. A near fine copy. Two copies in WorldCat at Michigan State and the Univ. of Chicago. Scarce. Although Singerman cites a date of 1935 or 1936, as mentioned above, the Angles News Service was not established until 1939. In SIBA (Singerman Bibliography of Antisemitic Texts).
