The first edition of this scarce work.Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, one folding plate, eight colour plates, and six monochrome plates.Collated, bound without the folding map, substituted with a folding table plate extracted from 'Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal'.Presented to Sir Lancelot Hare by His Highness Chura Chand Singh on the 14th December 1910.Hare was a civil servant, and Lieutenant Governor of the Bengal province of the British Raj.Chura Chand, also known as Meidingngu Churachand, was a Meitei King and Maharaja of Kangleipak. He ascended to the throne at the age of five, after the 1891 Anglo-Manipur War.'The Meitheis' is an interesting work on the traditions, folklore, and folktales of the Meitei.Including an introduction by Sir Charles J. LyallBookplate of W. A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the front paste downs. In a full morocco binding. Externally, smart, a little rubbed to the joints and extremities. Light discolouration and marks to the boards, mostly to the front board. Bookplate to the front paste down, presentation label to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good.
