About the Author
Henri R. Manasse, Jr., PhD, ScD (Hon.) served as the former CEO and executive vice president of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists from 1997 to 2011, as Vice President for Health Sciences and Professor at the University of Iowa, Interim Vice Chancellor for Health Services University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center, and Dean and Professor at the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy. Manasse has received many honors during his career including the Joseph A. Oddis Award for Exceptional Service to FIP, ASHP’s 2007 Harvey A.K. Whitney Lecture Award, the highest honor in health-system pharmacy, as well as ASHP’s 2012 Francke Medal, established by ASHP to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to international pharmacy practice. Manasse received the 2023 Remington Honor Medal; he is also the author of several books and has published extensively in the health sciences literature. He was inducted into the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in 1996.
Kasey K. Thompson, PharmD, MS, MBA is ASHP’s Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President and Program Director, Executive Fellowship in Association Leadership and Management. Thompson has published numerous articles on medication-use safety and health policy. Dr. Thompson has given presentations nationally and internationally; has testified before the United States Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and before a variety of federal agencies. He has served on numerous advisory committees and governing boards for various public and private sector organizations.
Thompson holds a BS degree in cellular biology from Northeastern Oklahoma State University; and BS and PharmD degrees from the University of Oklahoma, College of Pharmacy. He also holds an MS in Information Technology and an MBA from the University of Maryland University College.
