Congress has adopted sweeping changes to the Medicare program that will have a significant impact on integrated delivery systems, physicians, IPA′s, medical groups, hospitals, and health plans. About the Author
PETER N. GRANT, is a partner in the San Francisco and Seattle offices of Davis Wright Tremaine and is cochair of the firm′s health law group. His national practice emphasizes medical group and independent practice association organizations, hospital–physician joint venture, HMO and insurance regulation, reimbursement, and antitrust.Mr. Grant received a BA with special honors from the University of Texas at Austin, attended the Sorbonne and the Free University of West Berlin, received a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and was granted a PhD from Harvard University.Mr. Grant has lectured before numerous organizations, including the Advisory Board, AMA, AHA, AMGA, MGMA, ACHE, Harvard Business and Law Schools, and the University of California′s Institute for Health Policy Studies. He is a contributing editor to California Medicine, a member of the national advisory board of the Integrated Healthcare Report and of the BNA Health Law Reporter, and a member of the editorial board of Health Affairs.Mr. Grant is general counsel to the American Medical Group Association, the IPA Association of America, the California Integrated Healthcare Association, and the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California. He is a past president of both the California Society of Healthcare Attorneys and the Northern California Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He is a member of the National Health Lawyers Association and the Health Law Forum of the American Bar Association. W. REECE HIRSCH, is a partner in the San Francisco office of Davis Wright Tremaine and is a member of the firm′s Health Law Department. His practice focuses on health care mergers and acquisitions as well as general corporate health care and managed care matters, including the development of provider–sponsored organizations and other Medicare+Choice plans.Mr. Hirsch received his BS degree from Northwestern University. He earned his law degree from the University of Southern California Law Center and served as a member of the Southern California Law Review.Mr. Hirsch writes and lectures frequently on health care law topics. He is also a coauthor of Medical Practice Consolidation: Structural and Legal Issues, a book published by the Bureau of National Affairs on legal issues related to the formation and operation of IPAs and medical groups. Mr. Hirsch also coauthored chapters in two books published by The IPA Association of America (TIPAAA) on IPA legal issues. He is a contributing editor of Tips on Managed Care, which is published by TIPAAA, and California Medicine.
