Item description from seller

The first edition of this important work from prominent twentieth century geneticist C. C. Hurst, providing a detailed account of 'Creative Evolution'. The first edition of English geneticist Charles Chamberlain Hurst's 1932 illustrated study of evolution. Hurst was famous for his work on hybridisation and breeding in orchids, but also for carrying out early studies into eye colour genetics - demonstrating the dominance of brown eyes over blue in 1905 - and animal coat coloration.Stating in his preface that 'the time seems to be ripe for a gathering together of the multitudinous facts which go to make up the genetical story of creative evolution', this work is populated with numerous photographic and illustrated vignettes and plates. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Shelf wear to back strip head and tail, with light discolouration to back strip. Light mark to tail of front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Very Good.
