About this Item

Not a book but a seven-inch, 45 rpm, "single" record, Chess Records 1604, mint vinyl, dark blue label with the letters "CHESS" in silver, stacked vertically. This is NOT the label with two small chess pieces (bishop and knight) displayed to silver top half of label. Furthermore, although the catalogs all insist Chess No. 1604 was pressed in 1955, this disc displays a small (half-inch square) gold sticker to side of label reading "Golden Oldie." As we don't know the source of these little gold "stickers," there's a POSSIBILITY this is a somewhat later re-release. "Maybellene," Chuck Berry's first single and his first hit, was subsequently covered by Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Johnny Rivers, others. This 45 rpm "single" now reduced from $100.
