About this Item

First edition of the last major book to be written by Dahl before his death in 1990. Matilda won the Children's Book Award in 1989. It formed the basis for both the 1996 film directed by Danny DeVito and the successful stage musical which premiered at the RSC's Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2010. A film adaptation of the musical was released in December 2022. Octavo (220 x 142 mm). Illustrated throughout by Quentin Blake. Finely bound by the Chelsea Bindery in yellow morocco, titles to spine and front board onlaid in red and blocked in black, pictorial onlay (after original dust jacket) wrapped around front and back board, twin rule to turn-ins in red, red endpapers, gilt edges. A fine copy.
