From the Back Cover
David H. Griffin College of Environmental Science and Forestry, State University of New York, Syracuse
Praise for the First Edition of FUNGAL PHYSIOLOGY:
"...a very judicious book...Griffin has a clear and nonpedantic style...it should be fun to teach from." BioScience.
"...The appearance of this book is both significant and timely: I highly recommend it." Nature
"...a very good current account of fungal physiology that would serve well as a final–year undergraduate or postgraduate text....well written, easy to read, and a work of scholarship." Society for General Microbiology Quarterly.
"...an excellent introduction to the field of fungal physiology." Mycopathologia.
"...comprehensive...It is moderately priced and well worth mycologists having as a reference for their own use or for general courses; but it is especially recommended for graduate courses." The Quarterly Review of Biology.
"...an up–to–date comprehensive text that fills the gap between basic introductory mycology texts and advanced treatises composed of symposia proceedings....also a useful sourcebook for mycologists and plant pathologists." American Scientist.
In over a decade since the first edition of this book was published, molecular genetics, coupled with biochemical experimentation, has had a greater impact on research in fungal physiology than in any other period of time. The second edition of FUNGAL PHYSIOLOGY fully incorporates these new developments, skillfully integrating advances in molecular genetics with conventional organismal and biochemical approaches.
Thoroughly updated from the acclaimed 1981 edition, FUNGAL PHYSIOLOGY, Second Edition provides upper–level students with a solid understanding of fungal physiology in terms of the special properties of fungi that make them a unique member of the plant kingdom. Treating the subject from organismal, cellular, biochemical, and molecular perspectives, it encompasses basic biochemical composition, growth analysis, primary and secondary metabolism, and life cycle processes. Fungicides are also covered. The book is the first reference to close the gap between introductory mycology texts and advanced treatises and review articles.
