This is an introductory book aimed at students, technicians and practising analytical scientists in the chemical, biological and biochemical sciences. It introduces the reader to the basics of mass spectrometry, but also contains coverage of many important modern techniques, such as electrospray ionization and matrix assisted laser desorption ionisation, and of modern instrumentation. It contains guidance for the investigator who wishes to undertake investigations in the fields of (I) applications of mass spectrometry to biological molecules (II) analysis of complex mixtures and (III) analysis of samples that require derivationization, chromatography and/or tandem analysis.
"Absolutely excellent and outstanding.... The book is one of, if not the best textbook on mass spectrometry I have seen so far." (Int. Jnl. of Mass Spectrometry, No.214, 2002)
"...features an overall revision, new references?and expanded coverage of biological applications and new techniques..." (SciTech Book News, Vol. 26, No. 2, June 2002)
"...an excellent reference text for modern mass spectrometry...to be recommended to students of chemistry and the biological sciences alike..." (Spectroscopy Europe, 13 November 2002)
