xvi, 360pp, [2]. Original publisher's black cloth, lettered in silver, pictorial dustwrapper. Minor shelf-wear, dustwrapper rubbed and sunned. Internally clean and crisp. The journals of Edward Robarts (b. c.1770), Welsh seaman who participated in the slave trade between Africa and Jamaica and Santa Domingo. In 1797 he joined the crew of the New Euphrates as a steward. Deserting the ship in the Marquesas Islands, he became one of the first Europeans to write about the people, language and culture of the region. Size: 8vo. Seller Inventory # AQ23752
